Rudy
Varietal: Chardonnay
Region: Adelaide Hills, South Australia
Country: Australia
Format: 750ml
ABV: 13.3%
Rudy is sourced from a small co-farmed block of just over 1 hectare of 37-year-old Chardonnay vines deep in the Piccadilly Valley. Treated with great care along the whole journey – hand harvesting, chilling overnight, gentle whole bunch pressing and a light settling ensure the finest juice goes into barrel for
fermentation.
Rudy is always a Chardonnay that welcomes you with open arms. Far from the finely chiselled examples so popular today it's almost a little nostalgic in comparison. Old oak and no sulphur during elevage ensure its aromas take on a well rounded complexity in place of a pure fruit lift. More secondary notes of cashew and
hazelnut with a little butter and fragrant fruit derived spice of sandal and cedar. There’s an earthy sandstone minerality too. The palate is soft and gentle but rich and satisfying. There is ripe fruit there with
evolved white peach and sweet clementine then a little caramel and honeycomb before an intense slightly saline stony minerality builds to be the dominant character on the fresh but very long finish. The acidity is supporting all the way and perfectly balanced. A seamless slippery surprise.
