Domaine Maréchal Pommard La Chanière 2017
Claude Marechal is a winemaker whose principles in the vineyards are straightforward: the vineyards are plowed, no herbicides are used, treatments are kept to a minimum and the pruning is severe to keep yields low. Vinification takes place in open wooden vats, all grapes are totally destemmed.
Geologically, the marly Argovian soil is replaced by soft limestones and clays rich in iron. This leads to wines of a deeper color with an intense bouquet of berries, musk and game meat. Its flavors are dominated for a long time by the tannins and it needs to mature a while for the mellowness to appear. This is one of the strongest and most tannic vintages in Burgundy with great aging potential (15 to 20 years). It goes well with quite spicy dishes with a strong flavor, hare pâté, pheasant, wild boar, steak in wine, duck confit, etc. - From the winemaker
