Vineyard // Camp Hill is a single-site vineyard planted in 1998 at 250m elevation on rocky red volcanic soils, considered the highest point between the Strzelecki and Great Dividing Ranges. The vineyard faces north with almost 360-degree views of the Baw Baw Shire, with total plantings to chardonnay being approximately half a hectare. The elevated position and volcanic soils encourage deep root penetration, while good air circulation from the exposed site contributes to natural disease pressure management and the concentrated fruit character that defines wines from this distinctive vineyard.
Vinification // The fruit was hand harvested into 15kg baskets and transferred to the winery, then whole-cluster crushed into the press and drained off into tank for settling. Primary fermentation took place in barrique (30% new) over three weeks followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Lees stirring occurred weekly until the completion of malolactic fermentation. The wine was then aged in barrique for ten months.
Nose // White peach, ripe nectarine, lemon zest, subtle toasted hazelnut.
Palate // Powerful yet poised, bright acidity and textural weight giving energy and line. A mineral edge adds definition through the mid-palate, the finish long and precise.
