Barbera

The 2022 harvest enjoyed a cool and long ripening period in the Adelaide Hills, with only five days over 35 degrees! Strong cropping led us to drop some fruit in January in order to concentrate the optimum bunches. This fruit was harvested by hand at first light, before being crushed cold to fermenters to soak and await the natural ferment from indigenous yeast. After an eleven day ferment the wine was pressed out to neutral oak. Created with minimal interference, this wine is a proud representation of its variety and unique terroir.

All the expressive hallmarks of Barbera are present here. We especially revel in the blue fruits and violets present both aromatically and on the palate. Fresh acidity is supported by a savoury edge and the clean mineral finish characteristic of Wind River, thanks to the quartz and ironstone throughout the vineyard.
